Over the next 3 weeks, we will be dissecting three forms of photography for you to engage in while being at home. We like to think of these not as social media challenges and more as exercises in self-development. Educational tools such as extra readings, visual references and links to technical knowledge will be provided to you in a palatable form to assist you in creating your self-portraiture project.

Frankly speaking, staying engaged is the only way to stay sane during this period. The nationwide lockdown will push each of us to our utmost limits both mentally and physically. These unprecedented events affecting our realities have left countless individuals with a sense of “what now?”

It may be a disheartening uncertain time but it is also a time of opportunity for self-development. According to psychology professor Gregory Feist, when there is a shift away from the people and distractions surrounding us, we can embrace a thinking process that enhances critical reflection on one’s ideas and thoughts.

Therein lies the opportunity to enrich your creativity and truly level-up your photographic skill set.

So what are we going to do for the next 21 days?

Each week we’ll introduce a new form of photography for dissection and encourage our photographic community to join us in furthering your understanding and grasp of these different forms.

How do you get involved?

Be sure you’re following OrmsDirect and Orms Cape Town School of Photography on Instagram where we’ll be announcing a new study each week. Have a look at each week’s new form of photography and dive into our extra reading materials and educational content surrounding each form.

Then take all of the new skills and understanding of the specified form of photography and put it to the test by creating your own interpretation of the study and post it to your Instagram feed.

Submission date: only entries between the 30 March-3 April 2020 will be accepted, No entries before or after will be accepted. Submissions close on 3 April at 9am.

Be sure to use #keepcreatingwithorms and tag @ormsdirect @ormsctsp so that we can have a look at what you’ve been creating. By taking part you’ll also stand the chance to:

  • WIN a A4 Photobook with a personalised cover and 28 pages for you to design and make your own

OR
