Photos from Mikhael Subotzky’s Retinal Shift exhibition opening at the Iziko South African National Gallery last night.

Mikhael Subotzky‘s Retinal Shift opened to the public at the Iziko South African National Gallery in the Company’s Gardens last night.

Winner of the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Visual Art 2012, Mikhael’s extremely impressive exhibition is presented using various media, from traditional prints, to an interesting video installation and other digital displays. If you’re anywhere near the city bowl during the coming month, we urge you to stop off at the National Gallery to take a look.

All the prints were framed using the Diasec method by Framed By Orms. A selection of the Diasecs were finished with a sheet of hardened glass instead of acrylic glass, which allowed Mikhael to smash the glass with a hammer while the fragments stayed in place. The resulting dramatic effect is something that has to be seen!

Retinal Shift will be on show from 29 November 2012 to 9 January 2013. For more information, visit the Iziko events website.
