Mexican photographer Jan Smith’s Nuclear Disaster Stories opened at the Erdmann Contemporary / ThePhotographersGallery in Shortmarket Street last night, and it’s well worth the visit! The exhibition focusses on the aftermath of the Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear disasters, which makes for grim, but amazing photographs.

Jan Smith documents remote and isolated modern-day ruins, constructs of nuclear disasters. He sensitively focuses his lens on the catastrophic effects of nuclear disasters, and illustrates the improbability of life in these radioactive wastelands. His photography is recognized by a variety of associations and media including multiple awards from the International Photographers Association and Photo District News.

The exhibition will be on show until the 17th of March 2012 at Erdmann Contemporary, 63 Shortmarket Street, Cape Town.
