For our latest competition in partnership with Canon South Africa, we asked you to tell us how you, your business or your community have adapted to the challenges of the last few months and how these changes have positively impacted your world moving forward.

Those who shared their stories of positive change with us stood the chance to win two incredible prizes from Canon: a Canon EOS RP Mirrorless Digital Camera with an RF 24-105mm Lens and RF Adapter (first place) and Canon EOS M50 Mirrorless Camera Vlogging Kit (second place).

Our community rose to the occasion in stunning fashion, with more than 230 entries under the #MakeItBetterWithOrms and #ChangeTheWorldWithCanon hashtags. We were so moved and encouraged by your heartfelt stories and powerful experiences. It was an honour to hear your stories and witness how you have overcome difficult circumstances.

We took our time to go through every entry in detail, assessing them based on the criteria specified in our T’s & C’s: overall creativity and originality, the content of the video and the manner in which the content is presented to the viewer. Finally, following great debate and many tough decisions, we have chosen our two winners.

FIRST PLACE

In first place and winning a Canon EOS RP Mirrorless Digital Camera with an RF 24-105mm Lens and RF Adapter is Repholositswe Repro Mpitsa.

In his short film, “aMaphanda Asekasi”, Repholositswe Repro Mpitsa talks about how he has used his creativity and technical skills as a creator to uplift and empower the small business owners in his community.

RUNNER-UP

In second place and winning a Canon EOS M50 Mirrorless Camera Vlogging Kit is Eddy Kholokholo.

Eddy Kholokholo is an incredible artist. For his entry titled “Covid Cannot Beat Creativity”, Eddy wrote an entertaining, endearing rap about how the difficulties of the current global situation motivated him to work harder and put his art out there.

While we sadly cannot award every one of you a prize, we do believe that it is important to acknowledge the effort and generosity that went into creating your submissions. This is why we have also shared our Top 10 Honourable Mentions on Orms Connect today. Please pop over to that blog post and show some love to these other outstanding entries!

We know that the need in our country is at an all-time high right now, but watching your videos and hearing your stories has made this all the more apparent. Over the coming weeks, we will be doing writeups of the small local businesses and photographers who entered the competition, to provide them some exposure to our broader community. We will also be reaching out to the up and coming content creators who entered the competition to collaborate with them on future videos, podcast episodes and giveaways.
