The lovely team at Mango Street has put together a few tips to help you shoot long exposures at night for the next time you happen to find yourself under a beautiful starry sky. Let’s take a look…

You just never know when you will find yourself under a beautiful starry sky that you need to photograph.  The problem is, if you’ve never photographed the night sky before it can be a little tricky. Thankfully the team over at Mango Street has put together a quick and easy guideline to help you.

Their tips in short:

1. Use a wide angle lens.
2. Use the 500 rule.
3. Use live view to help you focus.
4. Use a shutter release or self timer to avoid camera shake.
5. Experiment with exposure times.

If you’d like to see more tips on photographing the night sky be sure to check these videos out, they are great for shooting, but also editing your night sky photographs.
