Fifteen hours in 85 seconds: Watch this brilliant time-lapse of star trails over Cape Town, created by Eric Nathan.

Remember that beautiful long-exposure photo of star trails over Cape Town that was being shared on social media last month? The photographer behind it, Eric Nathan, is back with this brilliant time-lapse video captured during that night. Fifteen hours, from 9:30 PM to 1PM the next day, compressed into 85 seconds.

This is one video that’s definitely worth watching in high-definition – it’s fairly short, so it shouldn’t take too much bandwidth. Hit those HD and fullscreen buttons and enjoy!

From the video’s description: “Time-lapse video sequence of star trails over Table Mountain captured during a 15 hour camp-out on Lion’s Head in Cape Town, South Africa. The sequence was captured with a Nikon D3X camera from approximately 9:30pm to 1pm the next day and comprises 1550 30-second exposures. The star trails are an effect created in post-production to highlight the motion of the stars. The music is a piece called ‘Seven Moons’ written, composed and performed by MUSICalchemy.”

You can view a the original composite still image from the night over on Eric’s Facebook page.

  1. “The star trails are an effect created in post-production to highlight the motion of the stars.” Erm, no. The star trails are a result of the Earth moving relative to the stars.
