South African photographer Tracy Robertson recently traveled to the Transkei to document the people and their horses.

After coming across my interview in the February edition of the Sporting Horse, Lloyd Gillespie and Isabel Wolf-Gillespie from the non-profit organisation Riding For Horses, invited myself and producer Stuart Merson-Davies (from In-Sync Productions, JHB) to journey with them, together with their two horses Roan and Himba and their ridgeback Pula, into the heart of the former Transkei, to the land of the AmaXhosa people, where equines are still a way of life.

Here’s some of the great photographs Tracy captured. View more on her blog.
