Experience the recent 2013 Absa Cape Epic through the photography of local adventure photojournalist Kelvin Trautman.
These awesome photos were taken at this year’s Absa Cape Epic by local adventure photographer Kelvin Trautman.
“I work as an adventure photojournalist and filmmaker focusing on extreme sports and adventure travel, and while my assignments vary, it essentially means is that I chase adventure and tell stories through photography. As such, I have been fortunate enough over the yearsย to document a number of endurance events and projects around the world including TransAlps Run, TransRockies Bike, Volvo Ocean Race, Ironman, Comrades, and now the Absa Cape Epic.
“I really enjoyed shooting the Epic because it encapsulated a lot of what I love about my job. It was about telling human stories – and believe me, there is plenty of human drama to convey. It was about combining sports and art. It’s about using creative dexterity to adapt to ever changing conditions. It’s about dust in the eyes and in the camera, no sleep, press deadlines, and sunburn – ok, maybe these last few points were not so enjoyable, but in a sadistic kind of way it does make feel like you earned your keep.
“The Cape Epic is truly a world class event, from the logistics, and the scenery to the world class field of mountain bikers that it attracts. There are so many stories within stories that, at times, you are not sure where to point the camera. Hopefully the selection of photos below will give you some inkling to what the 2013 Absa Cape Epic was all about.”

Great photos, love what you do. If you want to capture even more pain and suffering, come and document the Iron Bike. With the added bonus of Italian disorganisation thrown in for free ๐ .
