For the 7th consecutive year BirdLife South Africa invites photographers from across the glove to enter their prestigious Oceans Of Life Competition.
The Oceans of Life photography competition highlights the fragility and importance of our oceans. It is an attempt to create awareness about the issues concerning marine life while simultaneously broadcasting the beauty of the ocean.
The competition is open to experts or beginners, local or international. Everyone is welcome to enter, the only criteria is that the photographs feature marine life. Fifty of the best images will be displayed in the Iziko South African Museum, in conjunction with South Africa’s National Marine Week which occurs 12-18 October. The purpose of this week is to celebrate and raise awareness of South Africa’s coastal and marine environment and promote sustainable use and conservation of marine resources.
The prizes for the photography competition includes a berth in a share-cabin on board the 11-day ‘Spitsbergen Odyssey’ expedition to the Arctic, sponsored by Aurora Expeditions, as well as a pair of Leica Ultravid 10×42 HD-plus binoculars in conjunction with Orms, Your Photographic Lifestyle for the sub-category “Above the Line”. This sub-category prize will be awarded to the best above the water photograph. You can few further information on the prizes here.
