Anniversaries are such important milestones, be it your first or fiftieth. When it comes to anniversary gifts, however, it’s not always that easy to come up with something that truly stands out. So when Melanie Bezuidenhout visited us at Orms Print Room & Framing with a special request, we were simply delighted to help her put it together in time for their upcoming 1st wedding anniversary.
Tradition dictates that the first year of marriage be celebrated with the gift of paper. For this, Melanie selected one of their favourite lines from their wedding vows to be printed, framed in gold and hung above their bed. “I wanted the words in gold and in my own handwriting, purposefully leaving plenty of negative space as the paper was the actual gift”, she says.
The Orms team then scanned the wording at high resolution in order to print it at the required size. The frame was something equally special, “we specifically chose a gold colour finish for the frame to match the handwriting in the print. We then took the raw wood and applied thin layers of gold foil onto the frame. This is done through a process of layering and drying over time to achieve the smooth even finish. Finally, the gold is then treated with a stain in order to match the colour perfectly to the print”, says Cara van Riet, Framing Manager at Orms Print Room & Framing.
