If the Nikon Coolpix P900 impressed you with it’s shooting capabilities, prepare to be completely blown away by the new Nikon Coolpix P1000.
Nikon has just made all of our dreams come true with their recent announcement of the latest addition to their Coolpix P family. Enter the Nikon Coolpix P1000
With an astonishing 125x Optimal Zoom and 250x Dynamic Fine Zoom the P1000 features an optical 35mm equivalent focal length of 24 – 3000mm and can be extended up to 6000mm with the assistance of Nikon’s digital Dynamic Fine Zoom. This means that the Nikon Coolpix P1000 has the ability to smoothly capture sharper photos and videos than it’s predecessor even when your subject is not visible to the naked eye.
Like the P900 the P1000 has a 16MP, 1/2.3″ CMOS image sensor that offers you an ISO range of 100-6400. But unlike its predecessor, the P1000 offers a very welcome and sort after addition; Raw image capture. This capability allows you to achieve more accurate colours, wider dynamic range and improves noise reduction in post-production.
The ability to shoot 4K UHD video and the fully articulating 3.2″ 921k-Dot Vari-Angle LCD monitor (which it should be noted is not a touch screen) means the P1000 would be any vloggers dream camera. Weighing in at only 1.4kg’s the P1000 is a quarter of the weight of an SLR camera with a super-telephoto lens attached, allowing for greater ease of movement at a lower price without any sacrifice on quality.
The added bonus of Nikon’s SnapBridge app allows you to easily pair your camera with your device via Bluetooth or Wifi for seamless image and video transfer.
The lens accepts 77mm filters and has two zoom speeds, featuring a maximum aperture of F2.8 – 8 and has both ED and Super ED elements. This large F2.8 aperture performs incredibly well in even the lowest of lighting conditions; and a collection of special glass elements helps to reduce flare and ghosting, helping you to achieve sharp and contrast images.
