Orms Staff Interview: As we continue our quest to introduce you to the Orms team. Today we meet “Tuga”, our in-house Diasec wizard!

Someone who you may not have come into contact with at Orms Print Room & Framing unless you’ve been into our framing factory at some point is Tuga. He produces all of our Diasec orders – the most intense print process we offer. The process of creating a Diasec is extremely complex and there’s no one who is more of a pro than Tuga. We chatted with him to find out a bit more about him and what exactly goes into the process.

Hey Tuga, please give us a brief introduction – who are you, how did you end up at Orms Print Room & Framing?

My name is Firmino Vieira otherwise known as Tuga. (I’m from Angola so I speak Portuguese, my nickname is Portugal without the Por or l)

I used to work for a company called Art Stuff where I received work from Orms. I became familiar with the brand and I was soon offered a position in the company as a canvas stretcher. I did this for about four years. When a position for a Diasec operator became available, I applied and got the job. I’ve been the operator for five years.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?

Spending time with my family.

Is there a project that you’ve worked on that you found specifically interesting or challenging, and if so, what is it?

I once had to do a Diasec on glass. It was very tricky but the outcome of the project was awesome which was great to see!

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be and why?

I would like to learn about the printing process and how mishaps can be avoided. The quality of a print makes a difference in the quality of the Diasec so it would help me produce an even better outcome in the final product.

Where do you want to be in 5 years?

In five years I would like to be out of the Diasec room, I would like a new challenge.

If you could choose any mentor, who would it be and why?

Mark is someone I worked with, I was his assistant. He taught me a lot and he still helps me to work through tough jobs and to stay calm when there is a lot of pressure.

What do you enjoy most about working at Orms Print Room & Framing?

My colleagues. We really are like a family and we spend so much time together. I enjoy working with them, they always make me smile.

Do you have a quote that you live by? If so, what is it?

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.

What’s one thing that people wouldn’t know about the process of creating a Diasec?

Most people don’t know the process, they only know the final product. I can’t tell you the process (without getting fired haha) but one Diasec can take up to twelve hours to produce. This includes prepping the print, the machine and the time it takes for the chemicals to bond.

Is there anything that you’re known for in the factory?

I’m known to always wear my caps backward.
