Yesterday morning, at 03:44 local time, SpaceX made history when it successfully launched the first commercial rocket set to rendezvous with the International Space Station. The Dragon capsule was launched aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, and is set to become the first private craft to dock with the ISS this coming Friday. If all goes well during this test mission, SpaceX’s Falcon 9/Dragon combination is set to complete a minimum of 12 re-supply missions to the space station over the next few years, while NASA are working on their own successor to the Space Shuttle. In future missions, the Dragon capsule will be capable of transporting up to 7 crew members to orbit. Here’s some photos and video of the successful launch:
