Watch South African filmmaker Genevieve Akal’s short film Son of Old, a finalist in the 2012 Louis Vuitton Journeys Awards.
South African filmmaker Genevieve Akal’s three minute long short film, Son of Old, has been shortlisted in the 2012 Journeys Awards presented by Louis Vuitton.
The competition asked young filmmakers (under 35) to create a short film, without any dialogue, that interpreted the following manifesto:
“An encounter. It is part of every journey. An illuminating experience. A face to face with reality. A confrontation with destiny. A celebration of the unknown. Anywhere, anytime. Now. What will you encounter? Where will life take you?”
Son of Old fits the brief perfectly, and combines some very well shot scenes of driving through the Swartland with an intriguing and real story, all backed by great music.
If you enjoyed the video, be sure to support Genevieve by voting for it on the Journeys Awards website – It would be awesome to see a South African winner! Voting closes on the 3rd of September, and the winner will be announced during September.
