On Monday afternoon last week, the forces of nature aligned to produce some incredible waves at Dungeons, a popular big wave reef around the corner from Hout Bay. Luckily for us, Otto Whitehead was there to capture this amazing video footage:
The swell that day was not the largest ever at 5 meters (8.7 meters is predicted for this coming weekend), but the swell period of around 19 seconds made for some excellent surfing conditions. As Zigzag described it, “it was one of the most perfect swells in living memory.” And it certainly makes for spectacular visuals – even if you’re not into surfing.
The video was filmed using a Canon 550D, Canon 35mm f/2 and Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6.
