Canon comes into 2019 swinging with the announcement of their 4K consumer VIXIA HF G50 and if that announcement wasn’t enough they’ve also added the element-proof VIXIA HF W10 and HF W11 models to the VIXIA lineup!
The head of the pack, the all-new HF G50 not only offers you the ability to record in UHD 4K 30p for crystal clear imaging but also offers a 35 Mb/s 1080p60 mode for those times when shooting 4K isn’t the best option. 20x optical zoom produces the quality of visuals any Canon user will be familiar with while the addition of a DIGIC DV 6 Image Processor quickly captures your images for display on the 3” touchscreen LCD display complete with tilt able EVF. Those familiar with the VIXIA HF G50’s predecessor the G40 will be familiar with the host of easy to access and use functions carried over, this includes; the five assignable buttons perfect for customisable control, a handy lens ring, easy-to-use joystick control, and last but by no means least dual SD card slots.
Key Features
- 1/2.3-inch 4K UHD CMOS sensor
- 20x Optical Zoom Ratio
- 3.0-inch LCD, Capacitive Touch Panel (approx. 0.46 million dots)
- 2 SD card slots
The two cherries on the Canon announcement cake can’t pass up a mention here. The two VIXIA camcorders are waterproof down to 5 metres, shockproof from up to 1.5 metres and are able to survive temperatures as low as -10°! Both camcorders are able to record up to 1080 full HD video and capture 2MP still photos simultaneously, both feature 40x optical or 60x dynamic zoom, advanced image stabilisation, face-tracking, time-lapse recording and a handy 3” touch-enabled LCD screen. Really the only difference between these two new camcorders is internal flash memory with the HF W11 boasting an impressive 32GB and the HF W10 8GB.

I recently started snorkeling and the Vixia HF W11 seems like the perfect next purchase for capturing underwater footage. Question is, is it waterproof in sea / ocean water?
Hello Azadie,
Thanks for your comment.
While the Vixia HF W11 is waterproof up to 5 meters we would recommend reading the literature included to ensure you have all of the information you need before taking your camera snorkelling with you.
Thanks,
Rachel
