Niklas Zimmer’s “Into the Night” collection of nudes, still lifes & cityscapes opened at Salon91 this week. We went to go take a look.
We were very excited to view Niklas Zimmer’s latest body of work, “Into the Night”, currently showing at Salon91 in Kloof Street – and we were not disappointed!
In this series of nudes, still lifes and cityscapes, Niklas has used long exposure photography (ranging from 30 seconds to 10 minutes) and the theme of the night to explore the personal journeys each of us experiences at countless points throughout our lives. It shows the city and the world we know so well in a completely different light.
I think this quote sums up the feeling of the work really well:
βNight vision forces the easy daytime vistas to recede. While most elements are swallowed up by shadow, the living, breathing, moving things speak against a clear, environmental stillness. Night becomes a time for individuation, and this counterpoint vision informs the poetic aesthetic of Into the Night.β
Niklas shot the entire series with a Mamiya 7 and printed the images with Vincent van Graan at the ProPhoto Lab. He then used the Di-bond method of mounting the images to achieve a frameless matt finish.
The Exhibition is up until 23 June and we strongly recommend that you go take a look!
Gallery hours: Tue-Fri: 10am – 6pm / Sat: 10am – 2pm / Sun-Mon: Closed
