Canon South Africa recently launched their own version of the international Canon Professional Service. The local version is called Professional Camera Services and is supported by established Canon repair service, Cameratek.
Professional Camera Services, much like its bigger brother, is aimed at providing fast and exclusive service to professional photographers. When your camera is the means by which you put food on the dinner table, fast turn-around times are rather important. PCS works on a 3-tier system, with various factors determining the tier of a photographer, including the camera and lenses you shoot with. Most importantly, the service is free to all qualifying members. All the tiers offer loan-cameras of similar specification, and each tier offers a faster turn-around on repairs, down to only two days on the highest level – Platinum. For more information, and to sign up for PCS, visit their website via the link above.
Nikon-shooters need not feel left out – Nikon South Africa has been running a similar service (also free of charge) for a while, called Nikon Professional Services. While the entry requirements differ slightly, the benefits of both services are essentially the same.
It’s nice to see Canon and Nikon supporting local photographers in all the ways that they can. If you don’t qualify and you’re still looking for some protection, insurance might put your mind at rest. Know of any other professional services? Please add them in the comments.
