We take a closer look at some of the new and improved features on the Canon Powershot G7 X Mark II.
Canon released the PowerShot G7 X Mark II a few months back and as we are expecting it to arrive soon, we thought we’d take a closer look. The camera has everything that made the original G7 X so appealing, but also introduces a wide array of new features and improvements. The PowerShot G7 X Mark II is a premium high-performance compact camera with a large 1-inch 20.1 Megapixel sensor, delivering astonishing low light capability and incredible colour accuracy. Other features include 1080p video recording, built-in Wi-Fi and NFC, in-camera RAW conversion, and Time-Lapse movie mode. Let’s take a closer look…
Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II features:
20.1MP 1″ high-sensitivity CMOS sensor
The Canon Powershot G7 X Mark II features a large 1″ sensor with 20.1 Megapixels which sends image data to a DIGIC 7 image processor. This combination gives the camera an astonishing light sensitivity range of ISO 100 – 25600 with low levels of noise and life-like accurate colours.
4.2x optical zoom f/1.8-2.8 IS lens with 5cm minimum focus distance
The 4.2x optical zoom of the lens provides decent reach for shooting common subjects such as landscapes, portraits, and macro. The lens also fast maximum aperture of f/1.8-2.8 and image stabilisation to ensure you get sharp pictures in almost any light.
3.0″ 1,040k-dot tilting touchscreen LCD
The Canon Powershot G7X Mark II features a bright 3 inch LCD that can tilt downwards for high angle shooting, or upwards (up to 180 degrees) for low angle or selfie shooting.
RAW image shooting
The Canon Powershot G7 X Mark II features RAW image capture. Capturing images in RAW format will give you greater control of highlights, shadows, colour temperature, noise reduction, colour correction, and lens correction in post production image editing.
Full HD video recording at 60p
With a touch of a single button users will be able to capture high-quality 1080p Full HD videos at a smooth frame rate of 60 fps. The video files are stored in mp4 format and can easily be shared via the built-in Wi-Fi & NFC.
Super-fast 8fps continuous shooting
Simply hold down the shutter button and the Canon G7X Mark II will capture 8 full resolution pictures for each second. Whether you’re trying to catch the moment a player hits the ball, a bird taking flight or the start of any special moment, you can be sure you can capture the photo you want.
On-lens manual control ring
A manual control ring surrounds the lens and provides a quick and convenient way to manually adjust photos and navigate camera menus. A selection lever lets you switch between step ring and continuous ring movement. Step ring movement makes changing settings, like switching between Picture Styles, tweaking aperture or modifying shutter speeds, fast and easy. Continuous ring movement lets you smoothly change focus with minimal sound, even while recording movies, so you’re able to decide what part of the image is sharp while on the go.
Built-in Wi-Fi & NFC connectivity for easy file sharing and remote shooting
Built-in Wi-Fi & NFC technology allows for on-the-go convenience when you want to share your photos and videos with friends and family. Easily post your images to select social networking and media sites – Facebook®, Twitter®, YouTube™, Flickr®, and Google Drive™ – through CANON iMAGE GATEWAY directly from your PowerShot G7 X Mark II camera, or save them to the online photo album to share anytime, anywhere.
These 2 technologies also enable remote operation and shooting through the Canon Camera Connect app. Use different shooting modes (P, Av, Tv, M, Custom); enjoy multi-aspect shooting and display; choose AF frame modes (single-point/face detection); shoot in continuous shooting mode, and utilize the AF button. In addition, the Camera Connect app is now universal to PowerShot and EOS cameras with built-in Wi-Fi®, so if you switch between cameras, the operation is easy and familiar.
