Take a close look at this self-portrait created by Russian advertising photographer and retoucher Alex Sovertkov. How would you go about capturing this photo with a camera? Well, the answer is: you can’t. At least not within a single frame. But, that didn’t stop Alex from creating this Escher-like portrait by capturing plates and compositing the images together.

Bonus trivia: In a way, Alex’s portrait reminds us of Dutch painter Jan van Eyck‘s Arnolfini Portrait, which features the opposite effect of actually including the artist in a reflection:
