Is the Canon EOS M50 Canon’s most well-rounded mirrorless yet, and importantly, how does it’s video capabilities stack up for the vloggers out there? Let’s take a look…

The Canon EOS M50 is the recently released new compact and easy to use mirrorless camera that slots neatly between the entry-level Canon M100 and the mid-range Canon M6. Designed to appeal to those looking to upgrade from a smartphone or basic compact camera, the Canon EOS M50 features a large and powerful 24.1MP APS-C sized CMOS sensor capable of shooting 4K video. The sensor in the EOS M50 is paired with Canon’s brand new DIGIC 8 image processor to provide advanced features such as Dual Pixel CMOS AF, up to 143 AF points; and enough processing power to record UHD 4K video, shoot continuously at up to 10fps, and save 14-bit RAW images. The Canon EOS M50 camera also features a bright 2.36m-Dot OLED electronic viewfinder; a 3″ vari-angle (tilt & flip) rear touch LCD; a pop-up flash; and built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth connectivity.

With all of that said, (and while we wait for the camera to arrive at Orms with great anticipation) the word thus far is that this will make quite a nice vlogging camera and appeal to those looking to make videos for YouTube. But how does it really stack up with regards to video? Well, the camera does shoot in 4K, but it’s important to note that you will lose Dual Pixel AF when shooting in 4K. On top of that, it’s a cropped 4K. So you need to add 1.7x on top of the 1.6x crop factor.

Still, it sounds like even with that it’s set to be quite popular amongst vloggers.

Kai recently took the camera out for a little video test specifically, so let’s see what he thought about its video capabilities…
