It’s almost impossible to comprehend, but a German named Gunther Holtorf has spent the last 23 years on one long road trip around the world!
Gunther and his late wife originally set out in their Mercedes-Benz G Wagon on a trip to Africa, and never stopped traveling. After 23 years on the road, Gunther has covered more than 800,000km – that’s the equivalent of circumnavigating the planet 20 times! Amazingly, the G Wagon, affectionately dubbed “Otto”, has not had one serious breakdown yet.
Thankfully, Gunther has also been documenting his trip in photographs – he shoots with two 35mm Leica cameras, an M6 and a Leicaflex, and was recently joined by Canadian photographer David Lemke, whom he met in Vietnam.
