New Canon Announcements At CP+ 2014

Canon at CP+: Introducing the new Canon EOS 1200D DSLR, as well as the Canon G1X Mark II and more compact cameras.

While the 2014 CP+ camera show is only kicking off in Yokohama tomorrow, Canon has already revealed a whole range of new cameras, joining Nikon’s compact cameras that were revealed earlier in the week.

The announcements include a new affordable DSLR, the Canon EOS 1200D, as well as an update to the popular G1X – the Mark II version featuring new controls and a smaller form factor. We’re also excited about the new Canon PowerShot D30 waterproof camera, which will accompany you to a class-leading depth of 25 metres.

Here’s a rundown of the new cameras. We don’t have local ETA’s or prices yet, but a few of the cameras are only scheduled to be released internationally towards the end of April 2014.

Canon EOS 1200D

As the successor to the Canon 1100D, the 1200D promises to be a very affordable DSLR offering all the basic features you need to get creative. If you’re coming from a smartphone camera or a point and shoot, the 1200D will be the perfect upgrade, allowing you to expand your photographic abilities.

Canon PowerShot G1X Mark II

Although we’re going to miss the addition of the optical viewfinder in the current Canon G1X, the G1X Mark II offers improved handling, faster performance and an even more compact form factor, all wrapped around a large 1.5″ sensor. Visually and ergonomically, the camera is more similar to the Canon EOS M series than it is to the famous PowerShot G-series, with two control rings now occupying the space around the lens – one of which is ratcheted, for easier aperture adjustment.
