The Z-Mount lens range just got a needed boost with the announcement of Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.2 S & Nikkor Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S lenses.
It’s been a week of big announcements and Nikon didn’t miss out on the action with the announcements of two of the most anticipated lenses for its full-frame mirrorless Z-series: the Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.2 S and the Nikkor Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S.
Let’s take a look at the Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.2 S
Hailed as one of the fastest Nikon has ever produced, the Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.2 S promises to deliver “unrivalled sharpness, speed, and life-like clarity” all thanks to a new optical formula which prevents light entering the lens from being bent or distorted. Combined this with three aspherical elements, Nikon’s Nanon Crytal coating, and a new ARNEO coating and you’re left with unrivalled performance.
The autofocus in the Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.2 S is driven by two STM motors which simultaneously shift multiple focus groups for accurate and fast AF performance. Complete with a customisable control ring, function button and an EL Display panel nestled into the barrel of the lens the build of this new addition is rather impressive.
Key Features:
- Z-Mount Lens / FX Format
- Aperture Range: f/1.2 to f/16
- ARNEO and Nano Crystal Coatings
- Multi-Focus Stepping Motor AF System
Now on to Nikon’s new Zoom Lens, the new Nikkor Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S.
Nikon’s calling this one the “world’s shortest and lightest full-frame f/2.8 zoom lens with a 14mm field of view,” and they aren’t wrong!
The short flange distance of the Z-mount means that the new Nikkor Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S is about 35% lighter than the same lens from the F-Mount series. Complete with four ED lens elements, Nano Crystal Coating and ARNEO Coating, Nikon promises “optical superiority” from this new lens.
Much like the Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.2 S, the 14-24mm also features a customisable control ring, function button and an EL display of its own.
The added addition of accepting screw-on filters gives this lens that added element of flexibility, with the option to both attach 112mm filters to the lens hood while simultaneously utilising gel filters via the built-in rear-filter slot.
Key Features
- Z-Mount Lens/FX Format
- Aperture Range: f/2.8 to f/22
