Last week Sony announced the latest addition to their powerful full-frame lens series: the Sony FE 35mm F1.4 G Master Prime Lens. Sony has packed their most advanced technology into this newest E-mount lens, offering the anticipated G Master resolution and bokeh with blistering AF performance while keeping the lens remarkably compact compared with other large aperture 35mm primes. Let’s unpack some of the lens’ key features below!

Do you think the Sony mirrorless system might be for you? We’ve made it a lot easier to decide by reviewing two of Sony’s most notable new models from 2020. We tested the Sony A7C for content creation and we took the Sony A7S III to the Two Oceans Aquarium to see if it is really the beast that Sony claims it is. We even put the A7S III head-to-head with the Canon R5 in the battle of 2020’s biggest releases!

The Sony FE 35mm F1.4 G Master Prime Lens features an updated, sleek design. 35mm is a classic, versatile focal length, popular with everyone from street photographers to landscape photographers and documentarians. One of the advantages this particular 35mm has over more entry-level models is its wide F1.4 maximum aperture, delivering mind-boggling low light performance and great depth of field control.

Since this newest lens is part of Sony’s G Master collection, it utilises the advanced optical design, producing well-correct imagery with a high degree of sharpness and clarity. Its two extreme aspherical (XA) elements make the most of the lens’ short mirrorless flange-back distance to deliver breathtaking contrast and amazing resolution. Its superior optical quality is further enhanced by the Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass element that reduces chromatic aberration. Finally, Sony’s Nanon AR Coating II comes in to maintain crystal-clear image clarity, regardless of the lighting conditions.

The aforementioned XA elements work with the 11-blade aperture mechanism to produce an almost circular aperture even when the lens is wide open. Refinements from previous lenses have enabled the Sony FE 35mm F1.4 G Master Prime Lens to have a minimum focusing distance of 27cm and maximum magnification of 0.23x.
